The Stragglers Art Shop was first envisioned during the early days of 2020. Inspired by the prospect of an undetermined length of lockdown and being surrounded by shuttered shops, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to create a virtual space for sharing my artwork.

Being a self identified straggler (a person who departs from the direct or proper course, goes astray, or is the last to leave), I believe artwork encourages us to wander, linger, and depart from our familiar ways of experiencing the world. I hope my artwork nurtures a sense of curiosity and novelty, inviting you to exercise your imagination and develop your own pictorial narrative and meaning. If any of the artwork speaks to you, please feel welcome to inquire about available art cards, commissioned artwork, or art collaborations.

The Shopkeeper

Matt McCoy

Currently living and working in the unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples, Matt McCoy has been a practicing artist for 20 years. His artistic research is focused on the process of scribbling and the positive influence it has on self esteem, community wellness, and societal change. When Matt is not making art or puttering in the shop, he is providing mental health and social work support to folks living on Vancouver Island.
